Here is an example of playing HLS VOD (HTTP live streaming video on demand) inline on iPhone. You can also autoplay the video if there is no audio, otherwise a single user interaction is required (touchstart event for example). It is possible to stream a single file video but not all CDN (content delivery networks) allow for cross-domain byte range requests, this approach does not need OPTIONS requests to be supported by your provider.
